One of the cruise liners trading around the world that calls at Palumbo Malta Shipyard is the 2019 built LE BOUGAINVILLE.

On Saturday 13th April after she completed drydocking and all refit services with inspections etc, it was the time that she leaves the yard to go outside Grand Harbour for sea trials, compass adjustment, etc.

With Duty Harbour Pilot and 1 tug (SEA SALVOR) ordered for 1300 hrs, she started her move to leave French Creek minutes later as she tried her engine.

The plan was that once she’s in the fairway, she will lift up her 2 lifeboats back in their place.

At 1400 hrs Duty Pilot advised VTS that there was a problem in the davits and ship is not safe to go to open seas with the lifeboat problem.

The problem persisted and the Duty Pilot advised VTS that she’s going to berth astern of her sister LE CHAMPLAIN which was berthed at Pinto 3 Wharf and await for mooring party to arrive. She was alongside Pinto 2 wharf around 1420hrs with the mooring party arriving 5 minutes later.

At 1435 hrs , lifeboat problem was solved and wanted to leave harbour for compass adjustment. Unfortunately there was a communication problem with the passenger boat DELFINI who did not call VTS for traffic information, with the Pilot Boat ECHO 1 was sent to her once she reached Pinto 5 wharf to contact VTS and Duty Pilot due to cruise liner departure.

Once this issue was solved ,  the 184 passenger capacity liner made her way to the breakwaters for the open seas.

And after 90 minutes she returned back to Harbour berthing at Valletta Cruise Port.
