The 2010 built containership LANA successfully avoided being boarded by pirates while she was sailing through the Gulf of Guinea on her way to Tangier, Morocco from Doula, Cameroon last Friday, March 27th.

The pirates, who numbered at least eight, approached the vessel via speedboat and attempted to board her when the latter’s crew began performing anti piracy manoeuvres, including sailing at full speed.

An exchange of gunfire then took place between the perpetrators and the container ship’s embarked security team though no injuries were later reported. The pirates were unable to board the container ship and soon afterwards fled the area.

Images of LANA are while entering Marsaxlokk Harbour, Malta back to 21st July 2014.
