One of the Swedish owned vessels that used to call at Malta mainly at the Malta Freeport at Marsaxlokk Harbour, Malta was the 1978 built TYRUSLAND.

She was built in Japan by Mitsui Eng. & SB. Co Ltd at Chiba as yard number 1182 for Brostroms Rederi AB as TYRUSLAND from 1978 to 1984. She was chartered for a year from 1984 to 1985 as JOLLY ORCA and renamed again TYRUSLAND though she changed ownerships 9 times. During 1995 the B&N Swedish Orient Line, a member of Swedish shipowning group Bylock and Nordsjofrakt, has signed a contract with the Portuguese shipyard Lisnave for the rebuilding and lengthening of two of her RoRos, the 1978-built TYRUSLAND and THEBELAND. As part of the SEK 62m (USD 8.4m) contract, the vessels will be lengthened from 165 metres to 190 metres. This will increase their capacity from 13,000 dwt to 16,600 dwt. The rebuilding will take about six weeks, starting in mid-July, at the Setubal shipyard. The vessels will then be re-employed in SOL’s Mediterranean liner service.

During 2004 Swedish Orient Line have concluded a sale and charter back for the RoRo’s THEBELAND, TYRUSLAND, VEGALAND & VIKINGLAND with Imperial Shipping Ltd. and Navalmar Transportes Maritimos Ltda. Two of four “Medro”-class vessels (THEBELAND / TYRUSLAND / VEGALAND & VIKINGLAND) will be chartered by Stora Enso from TransProCon AB (Svenska Orient Linjen AB) for service between Kotka and Gothenburg starting in 2005. Charter contract forTHEBELAND was already fixed. The 1A ice class vessels have been modernised and lengthened in 1995/96.

On Tuesday 7th May, 2013 she entered Grand Harbour bound to Palumbo Malta Shipyard with hull damage after a collision with the 2012 built 140metre long MLT flag ship MUNNEVER at a Libyan Port,
