2 Chemical/Oil Products tankers owned and managed by Russia’s largest maritime and freight shipping company, Sovcomflot , which was blacklisted by the United States last week as part of sanctions against Russia, are diverting from their Canadian destinations, according to tracking data and marine sources. The tankers are the first Russian owned oil vessels to change course after Canada this week ratcheted up pressure on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine by shutting ports to Russian owned ships and barring them from Canadian waters.

The 2006 built 183 metres LBR flag tanker SCF NEVA carrying crude oil changed course from Canada’s Saint John port on Thursday and headed to Freeport, Bahamas spending 1 day and 17 hours before proceeding to orders.

She arrived at Cartagena Anchorage, Colombia last 12th February and left on the 15th February to start loading operations at Colombia’s Mamonal port of which she left on Wednesday 16th February after 1 day and 11 hours. Then she stopped at an oil storage terminal in St Eustatius, Caribbean Sea and she was due to continue to the Port of St. John in New Brunswick, Canada

The second tanker SCF USSURI chartered by Suncor Energy which is a Canadian based Integrated Energy Company has slowed down on Thursday and is currently floating offshore after rerouting from her destination to Montreal, Canada. She left New York, USA on Thursday 24th February and was due to arrive in Montreal on March 1st. Now she’s proceeding to Freeport, Bahamas arriving on Thursday 10th March in the morning.

The Biden administration is considering following Canada in barring Russian ships from U.S. ports, a government official said on Wednesday. As the SCF USSURI loaded refined product in the U.S. East Coast, she cannot return to the United States without violating the Jones Act.
