The Historic 1896 launched barque BELEM arrived this afternoon at Greece to transport the Olympic Flame for the Paris 2024 Games.

The Flame has always been transported by plane, it has never arrived by boat, so this is something that is happening for the first time of which the flame will be handed over on Friday 26th April and set sail for Marseille, France arriving on Tuesday 8th May.

Embarked aboard there are 3  flame keepers and 16 young individuals, aged 17 to 25, who have been invited aboard the ship. These young participants, who have limited experience in water sports and leisure activities, represent a diverse range of backgrounds and are set to embark on a transformative journey.

On her arrival at the capital city, her passengers disembarking in Olympia will have the unique opportunity to witness the flame-lighting ceremony, adding an extra layer of significance to their journey.

All images of BELEM are back to April, 2006 at Grand Harbour, Malta.
