One of the L. Smit & Co NV (Smit International) tugs that was founded in 1842 still afloat after 80 years since she was built was the 1938 built tugboat BLANKENBURG.

She was built in 1938 at L. Smit & Zn in Kinderdijk, Netherlands as yard number 886 with 28.95m long and 6.38m beam and 3.36 metres draft as BLANKENBURG. In 1939 she was chartered to the Royal Navy at Den Helder, Netherlands as BV 20, in 1941 she was chartered to Kriegsmarine in Hamburg, Germany as BS 2. From 1947 to 1963 she was owned by Smit International as BLANKENBURG.

In 1963 she was sold in Italy, bearing the same name until 1981 by Micoperi Societa per Azioni. Sold to Trinacria Lavori Maritimi she was renamed as TRINACRIA QUINTO until 1983 when sold to Micoperi once again and renamed BLANKENBURG.

Since 1986 she was sold to Sicilpontoni Patene Srl, Italy and still as BLANKENBURG and was spotted several times moored at her buoy at Augusta, Sicily.
