After last March, 2021 the Hon Minister Ian Borg, and the Hon Minister Clint Camilleri announced the liberalisation of the High Speed Passenger Ferry Service between Gozo and Malta, Virtu Ferries welcomed the news and given the green light by Transport Malta to operate on the new route.

Given the short notice between the announcement by Government and the intended date of commencement on 1st June 2021, Virtu will be operating the service with both Surface Effect Ship (SES) SAN FRANGISK and SAN PAWL in order to meet the required deadline.

Once the service is up and running, Virtu will be reviewing building a ferry specifically for the Mgarr- Valletta service. The proposed new ferry will conform to highest environmental standards in place at time of build, respecting stringent Emission Regulations and guidelines issued by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). Virtu will strive even further to accomplish “Zero Emission” once such advanced technology is available for ferries of this type.

On Wednesday 19th May the fares were announced and both catamarans have a cruising speed of 35 knots (65 kilometers per hour), well within the 45 minute requirement for the crossing.

And lately the schedules were out too……With over 150 trips per week and a journey time of less than 45 minutes, Virtu Ferries promises to offer the most convenient fast ferry service between Malta and Gozo.
