One of the Italian built luxury yachts around the world is the 2021 built superyacht POLARIS built by Rossinavi at Viareggio, Italy. She’s the 280th largest yacht in the world and the first largest yacht to be built by her builder. In fact shortly after she was delivered to her owner she entered Grand Harbour, Malta mooring to St. Angelo Wharf, part of Grand Harbour Marina (GHM).
With a beam of 12.7 metres and draft of 3.35 metres she holds a gross tonnage (GT) of 1,546 ts. She has accommodation capacity for 17 crew members including captain and 12 guests. POLARIS has a steel hull with aluminium superstructure. In March 2022 a great fuss was made as she was seen approaching Valletta due to EU sanctions against 680 individuals and 53 entities linked to Russian President Vladimir Putin in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
She is owned by the Russian multi billionaire Maxim Shubarev, chairman of Setl Group, a major Russian construction company based in St Petersburg who received Maltese Citizenship in 2018 and does not appear to be on the list of oligarchs sanctioned by the EU, and was not aboard the yacht while she was inside Territorial Waters.
She is powered by 3 x Caterpillar Diesel engines giving her a cruising speed of 15 knots with a top speed of 17.0 kn. The yacht has a range of 12.0/6000 n/m nautical miles at a speed of 15.0 kn.
